Yorke: United face tough test

Dwight Yorke
Former Manchester United striker Dwight Yorke has warned his old club that the ‘noisy neighbours’ of Manchester City and Chelsea will provide a tough test in the title challenge this year.

ity won the title on the final day of last season with an incredible 3-2 win over QPR which sealed the trophy thanks to two dramatic goals with only seconds to go. United were forced to accept a rare season without silverware but Yorke believes that they will be highly motivated to reclaim their place at the top of English football.

“I think they will be bitterly disappointed in the way City snatched the Premier League title away from them this season,” he told ESPN. “But knowing United, it will make them stronger and more determined more than anything else to regain it.

“They have a fight on their hands and the ‘noisy neighbours’ are making a lot of noise. Chelsea have done remarkably well last season in winning the Champions League and the FA Cup and, for me, the Premier League title will be decided between those three teams.”

Yorke was also asked about United’s interest in wantaway Arsenal striker Robin van Persie and, despite the interest of Italian champions Juventus, can see only one city for him to find the success he craves.

“Robin van Persie is at a crucial stage of his career,” he said. “He has had a remarkable season and when you do that you want to win trophies. The city of Manchester is the place if you want to win something and it’s more a personal choice for him. He won’t go wrong in choosing either of those two teams in Manchester.”
